Stay Cool at our Treasure Valley Parks With Shade

We all know Boise summers can be hot, and sometimes the playground slides feel more like stovetops. But don’t worry, there are plenty of parks around the Treasure Valley where you can still let the kids run wild without completely overheating. Whether you’re looking for playgrounds under tree cover, shaded picnic spots, or splash pads to cool off, these local gems have you covered — literally!

Cassia Park

Cassia Park is a go-to for families who want a nice mix of open play space and shaded areas. While the playground itself gets some sun, mature trees nearby give you plenty of spots to set up a blanket or enjoy a picnic in the shade. There’s also some shaded areas around the playground equipment.

Sunset Park

True to its name, this park feels extra magical in the late afternoon when the sun dips low. But even in the middle of the day, this park has shade tents right over the play structures, a rarity for shade cover at parks! That means cooler slides and much happier kids.

Molenaar Park shaded splash pad area

Molenaar Park

A newer favorite for West Boise families, Molenaar Park has it all—including a splash pad for the ultimate summer cool-down. You’ll find shaded areas throughout the playground as well as a shaded picnic area. The splash pad is also on my list of best splash pads in the Treasure Valley!

Peppermint Park

This sweet little park in Meridian is perfect for a low-key shaded playdate. While most of the playground gets sun, nearby benches give you a comfortable viewing spot to relax while the kids climb and swing. It’s also on my list of best toddler-friendly parks!

Primrose Park

Primrose Park is a neighborhood gem where the shade really makes a difference. It’s a peaceful place to enjoy a summer park date while being able to take refuge in the shaded tent areas without baking in direct sunlight.

Williams Park

Williams Park

Big trees are the MVP here. Williams Park has plenty of natural shade to keep playtime comfortable. It’s especially nice for bringing younger kids who need a cooler, calmer spot to explore.

Manitou

Manitou Park is the definition of classic Boise charm, with huge, established trees providing some great natural shade. There’s also a large grassy area for picnics, sports, and running free with some tree cover.

Elm Grove Park

Elm Grove Park feels tucked away from the city and offers natural shade from trees right over the play structures. The mature trees here give you plenty of room to spread out for a shaded picnic after playtime.

Reid Merrill Park

Reid Merrill Park

Over in Eagle, Reid Merrill Park is a summertime dream. Some parts of the play structures are covered, plus there’s a splash pad for cooling off. Plus there are tree covered trails to walk right along the river for some exploring.

Memorial Park

Located near downtown Boise, Memorial Park has a great mix of open lawn and shade. The trees here create a nice break from the heat, making it a great stop during a summer day out.
