Homeschool Days @ Discovery Center of Idaho

During the school year, we will be welcoming homeschool groups to reserve and pay for their visit in advance ($15 per chaperone, $10 per child; there is no membership discount available for this program).

To enhance the experience of all of our visitors, we are limiting ticket sales, so we ask that each group attend only one Homeschool Day per exhibition.

Registrants must purchase tickets* in advance at our website; tickets for each event will go on sale two weeks ahead of the event. Please carefully consider the date options before you register, as all sales are final and we are unable to refund any ticket sales for this special program. On each date, doors will be open for registrants to check in using their pre-purchased tickets from 10 am – 12 pm at the front desk. Late arrival tickets will NOT be honored.

We are excited to offer the purchase of special take-home activity kits related to the current exhibition made just for our Homeschool day families! Details about the kits can be found using the registration link for the specific date. We ask that each family purchase only one set, which contains the materials for multiple activities, some of which can be done as a team and some which can be done for up to 4 individuals.

The Sensory Guide Map is designed to support our visitors by identifying sensory input in spaces throughout the Center. Please be aware that at high traffic times, activity levels and therefore stimuli all around the Center tend to be heightened.

Sensory Kits

Sensory Kits will be available upon request at the front desk on a first come, first serve basis. These kits include noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses and various fidget toys to support visitors during their time at the Discovery Center of Idaho. Visitors must temporarily deposit an identification card at the front desk to check out a Sensory Kit, and will receive it back upon returning the kit.

Join us at the Museum for gold panning from 11:30 am – 3 pm on Sunday, May 17th.

You’ll learn to pan for gold from the experts and each child takes home a speck of gold.

Gold panning takes place outside under shade canopies on the grass of the historic Women’s Ward Courtyard at the Old Pen. You can also take a 40-minute easy guided geology hike on the nearby Table Rock hillside at about 1 pm.

You’ll want to enjoy our amazing Museum and see the blacklight display, mining camp, Idaho dinosaur, rocks and minerals and much more. Children get a free polished mineral!

Homeschool Days @ Discovery Center of Idaho

During the school year, we will be welcoming homeschool groups to reserve and pay for their visit in advance ($15 per chaperone, $10 per child; there is no membership discount available for this program).

To enhance the experience of all of our visitors, we are limiting ticket sales, so we ask that each group attend only one Homeschool Day per exhibition.

Registrants must purchase tickets* in advance at our website; tickets for each event will go on sale two weeks ahead of the event. Please carefully consider the date options before you register, as all sales are final and we are unable to refund any ticket sales for this special program. On each date, doors will be open for registrants to check in using their pre-purchased tickets from 10 am – 12 pm at the front desk. Late arrival tickets will NOT be honored.

We are excited to offer the purchase of special take-home activity kits related to the current exhibition made just for our Homeschool day families! Details about the kits can be found using the registration link for the specific date. We ask that each family purchase only one set, which contains the materials for multiple activities, some of which can be done as a team and some which can be done for up to 4 individuals.

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the foundation of all support given to people with disabilities in our community by providing one-on-one personal care services that clinical professionals do not have time for. DSPs help people live full and meaningful lives. Again, what does this look like? Come to the Carnival and see. See how these amazing people interact and support their clients and friends. Interact with community members who need support and decide if you have time or interest in becoming a DSP. There will be agencies hiring and a booth of community support worker positions. Full-time, part-time, days, nights, evenings, weekends, and all shifts are available. If you need training, that is no problem; we can help with that too. Being a Caregiver is not for everyone. That’s okay. If you only attend to have FUN, you are still supporting our community!
3.) To Connect our Community – It is hard to ask for help. It is even harder to find help when you don’t know who to ask. Many times, people do not know there is help for them.
If you feel alone or unable to get the support you need, come to our Carnival. Our community is full of amazing and knowledgeable people who care. This event is an opportunity to network with and meet others who believe that Everyone Deserves Support. We need to support those who give support.

This short class relives my path to Rocket Science. As a child of the 1960s space race, all things of air and space were the rage. Model airplanes were the way people of all ages joined the fascination with space, many following it through to NASA, the moon landing, and etc. However, I stopped at gliders for their simplicity and the simple beauty of wings and tail. Over the course of three 1.5hr workshops, participants will build a glider, have an in-depth flight lab to perfect it, and refine skills for continuing this simple and wonderful tradition.

• How to assemble a balsawood plane 

• How to finely tune a balsawood plane, for the perfect flight 

• A good sense of the materials and techniques

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics is hosting Movie on The Blue, sponsored by Dodd Roofing and Exteriors and Lexus on Friday, May 29 at 7 p.m. Jurassic Park was selected through an online poll and is rated PG-13 by the Motion Pictures Association of America for several intense sequences that might be alarming to younger viewers.

Admission to the event is free and parking will be complimentary in the west lot located between Albertsons Stadium and ExtraMile Arena. 

Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the movie will start at 7 p.m. 

Fans are invited to enter the stadium through the Allen Noble Hall of Fame.

The movie will be presented on both the north end zone and south end zone  video boards. 

Seating will be available in the west stadium stands and on the field. Seats with legs are not permitted on The Blue. 

Fans will be able to bring refillable beverage bottles and cups to utilize water stations located on The Blue and in the concourse. Bottle/cups must be empty for entry.

Fans will have the opportunity to interact with Boise State student-athletes and take part in family activities from 6-7 p.m.

42nd Annual Saint Alphonsus Capitol Classic Run 2026

Free community event: Join us for a 4-mile group bike ride around the neighborhood, led by City Cycling Guide, along with ACHD and the City of Boise.

Start off with a safety refresher workshop and fix-a-flat demo, before heading out for a guided bike ride highlighting neighborhood bikeways, bicycle and pedestrian crossings, and future ACHD projects.

This short class relives my path to Rocket Science. As a child of the 1960s space race, all things of air and space were the rage. Model airplanes were the way people of all ages joined the fascination with space, many following it through to NASA, the moon landing, and etc. However, I stopped at gliders for their simplicity and the simple beauty of wings and tail. Over the course of three 1.5hr workshops, participants will build a glider, have an in-depth flight lab to perfect it, and refine skills for continuing this simple and wonderful tradition.

• How to assemble a balsawood plane 

• How to finely tune a balsawood plane, for the perfect flight 

• A good sense of the materials and techniques

Hailey J Boucher has teamed up with the Lit Room and Common Ground for a special launch party for “Eliza Picklepear”. Eliza Picklepear was written by Sherri Jackson, Hailey’s mom who passed away when Hailey was in high school. Sherri had written dozens of children’s poems, and hoped to publish them, but she passed before she was able. Hailey has illustrated the first of her works by hand and is self publishing in her honor. Both of them are Boise Idaho locals.

We’ll be hosting a read through and brief introduction talk at common ground coffee, as well as signing copies for sale. Bring your littles to enjoy the silly quirky tale of Eliza Picklepear, the girl with the world’s most enormous hair, and support local artists and authors.

You asked, we listened! We are bringing the trading card and collectable show back to the community center. This is a FREE event for the community. We are also bringing in food trucks. There are a FEW vendor tables left. Check out the registration link for information on those.

Little Vet School: Summer Program for Future Veterinarians

Sensory Guide Map

The Sensory Guide Map is designed to support our visitors by identifying sensory input in spaces throughout the Center. The information included shows varying types of stimuli (audio, visual or tactile) and uses color coding to indicate the level of stimulation that may be present in each section of our facility. Please be aware that at high traffic times, activity levels and therefore stimuli all around the Center tend to be heightened.

Sensory Kits

Sensory Kits will be available upon request at the front desk on a first come, first serve basis. These kits include noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses and various fidget toys to support visitors during their time at the Discovery Center of Idaho. Visitors must temporarily deposit an identification card at the front desk to check out a Sensory Kit, and will receive it back upon returning the kit.

Calling all future aviators and creators! Join our A-10 Warthog Model Building Workshop designed for kids ages 12–16. This is an intermediate level workshop geared toward participants with model building experience.

In this two-day, supervised workshop, participants will build their own scale model of the legendary A-10 Thunderbolt II—better known as the Warthog—while learning about the aircraft’s history, design, and mission. Our team of master model builders will guide students step-by-step, as they hone model-building skills, patience, and attention to detail. All necessary supplies are provided, and students will take their model home with them!

Limited to 11 participants. All participants need to bring a sack lunch. Refrigeration and microwaves are available.

This short class relives my path to Rocket Science. As a child of the 1960s space race, all things of air and space were the rage. Model airplanes were the way people of all ages joined the fascination with space, many following it through to NASA, the moon landing, and etc. However, I stopped at gliders for their simplicity and the simple beauty of wings and tail. Over the course of three 1.5hr workshops, participants will build a glider, have an in-depth flight lab to perfect it, and refine skills for continuing this simple and wonderful tradition.

• How to assemble a balsawood plane 

• How to finely tune a balsawood plane, for the perfect flight 

• A good sense of the materials and techniques
