Before you go, I wanted to share some “tips and tricks” for attending a show at Outlaw Field summer concerts with kids — emphasis on going WITH kids. We took our kiddos to see the first show of the summer with Jon Batiste a few years ago and it was a “core memory” for all of us. We can’t wait to go back again!

Tips and Tricks on Outlaw Field Summer Concerts With Kids

  • Parking is limited! However, thre are a limited number of spaces in the Idaho Botanical Garden parking lots but TONS of bike parking if that’s an option for your family and also a free shuttle service from downtown Boise. According to the Idaho Botanical Garden’s website, “Shuttles will pick up guests on Main Street between 8th and 9th in the bus zone starting at 5:30pm until 8:30pm. The first shuttle returns to pick up guests after the show and is staged at the Accessibility drop off/pick up area at 9:30pm (outside the main gate). After that time, the shuttle will pick up from the main pick up/drop off lot adjacent to Warm Springs Ave.” Parking staff is on site to help direct traffic to available spots.
  • Go early! Gates usually open an hour and a half before the show and it’s a great chance to claim the best seats/spot, have a picnic and grab stuff from vendors on site. There are a handful of local food trucks on site with lots of yummy options. Of course my 6 year old wanted shaved ice! 😉 Who can blame him? If you get there early and have time to kill before the show starts, bring a deck of cards or other games to keep you all entertained. Note: The Idaho Botanical Garden itself is not open to the general public on Outlaw Field Concert Days.

Don’t Forget

  • Plan on sitting low to the ground as only low-back chairs and blankets are allowed across the grassy, park like setting. Note: All tickets are general admission but Garden Suite Seating is available for an additional cost. Garden Suite Picnic Table Seating includes reserved seating at a table for four, partial sunshade, table beverage service and access to private restrooms. There are also Garden Suite Adirondack Chairs available for purchase and available in sets of two. Note: Garden Suite tickets sell out fast! (You can call to check on remaining suite seats.)
  • It can get HOT. Pack sunscreen, hats, and reusable water bottles to fill up at the water station and stay cool!

  • Hit up your favorite restaurant for take out, pack a picnic from home or raid the grocery store for snacks because outside food and sealed non-alcoholic drinks ARE allowed! NOTE: Only soft sided coolers (smaller than 30 quarts) are allowed. No alcoholic beverages, glass containers, knives or cooking apparatuses are allowed so pack wisely! All bags are checked by security before you can go into the venue. Collapsible wagons are allowed as well as strollers.

What You Need to Know

  • Alcoholic (and N/A) beverages are sold on site and through a beverage token system. Each token is $12. All food vendors accept Visa, Mastercard and cash. There is no ATM on site. Everyone 21 years of age must bring a photo ID to receive a wristband. Wristbands will be distributed at all alcohol stands.
  • There is no re-entry! Luckily there is plenty of space to get up and wander about. But if you leave the venue you are not allowed back in.
  • Concerts are held “rain or shine” (we’ve been in both). While temps can get super hot at the beginning, once the sun sets the temperatures can drop so dress appropriately!
