5 Spots to See Boise’s Fall Colors

Boise isn’t called the City of Trees for nothing! Every year, as summer gives way to autumn, our city transforms into a stunning palette of reds, oranges, and yellows. Whether you’re a longtime local or new to the Treasure Valley, you won’t want to miss the magic of fall. But don’t wait too long—late September through early November is the best time to catch the season’s full glory.

Kathryn Albertson Park

-Popular for bird watching and family photo sessions, Kathryn Albertson Park is always the #1 recommendation I get when it comes to experiencing Boise’s fall foliage. A peaceful oasis near downtown, Kathryn Albertson Park is ideal for a relaxing afternoon walk. With its reflective ponds and beautifully landscaped paths, it’s one of the best places to soak in the serenity of fall. The colors typically peak in early October, so plan your visit soon!

The top of Camel’s Back

-It’s worth the steep hike up to see the trees below showing off! Nestled in the North End, Camel’s Back offers more than just stunning views of the foothills—it’s also a prime spot for fall colors. Hike to the top for panoramic views of Boise’s autumn landscape or stay at the base to play on the playground and enjoy the colorful background! Early October is often the best time to visit as the trees are in full color.

Harrison Boulevard

-Not only is this tree-lined street showing off it’s beautiful colors, the houses are bursting with fun and spooky Halloween decorations. The combo can’t be beat! Which house is your favorite? Don’t forget to check out our Guide to the North End to find great treats and activities!

The Boise River Greenbelt

-With miles and miles of paved trail you’ll be blown away at the mix of colors that you’ll see as you walk or bike along the Greenbelt. The Greenbelt is a must in every season, but it truly shines during fall. You can take a leisurely bike ride along the river, with the vibrant foliage reflecting off the water. The stretch between Ann Morrison and Kathryn Albertson parks is especially breathtaking from late September through early November.

The Foothills

-There are many trails in the Foothills that give you a good bird’s eye view of our “City of Trees!” Not only that but the golds and greens of the Foothills really show off this time of year! For those who love to explore the foothills, Hulls Gulch Reserve is a perfect spot to see fall colors while getting in some outdoor exercise. The scenic trails provide sweeping views of the valley, making it a favorite for families and hikers alike. Aim for late September to early October for the most vivid colors.

Honestly, I think some of the most jaw-dropping Fall colors are in your own backyards! For instance the neighbor across the street from me has a tree that looks like it’s on fire and I look forward to it every year. Plan your outings for late September through early November to experience the best time for fall foliage in the City of Trees. Whether you’re walking, biking, or simply enjoying the view, these spots will give you the perfect backdrop for making autumn memories with your family. Okay, enough from me! Get out there and enjoy them!
